BoMark Features
Source Files
Watermarking is available for the following file types: ePub eBooks and PDF documents.
Limits
Following a purchase, the consumer can download an eBook a configurable number of times within a set period. For example: a maximum of 3 downloads within one month of purchase.
Watermarking
An eBook or PDF file containing a watermark is presented to the consumer simply as a download link. The publisher can display this link to the consumer after purchase or send it via email, for instance, as part of the order confirmation.
BoMark provides both visible and invisible watermarking but is not a technical copy-protection (DRM) measure. By using BoMark Social DRM, publishers opt for a consumer-friendly and future-proof solution to discourage piracy, primarily by embedding the buyer's name and email address into every digital book.
Ex Libris (Bookplates)
A publisher can upload up to 10 "Ex Libris" JPEG image files to be placed at the front of an eBook or PDF. This digital bookplate visibly displays the buyer’s name and email address. The publisher determines exactly where this text is placed by drawing a frame on the image with their mouse. Furthermore, the font and text colour are fully customisable.
The publisher selects an Ex Libris per transaction. This also allows for third-party branding on an eBook (e.g., for promotional campaigns). For companies with multiple imprints, the bookplate can be tailored to the specific "brand feel" of each imprint. A default imprint can also be set for transactions where no specific branding is defined.
Personal Messages
BoMark can insert a personal message at the front of an eBook, such as a dedication to the reader or a "thank you" note when the eBook is purchased as a gift.
Information Page
An additional information page can be placed at the back of the eBook. This can include promotions for the author or imprint, or a formal disclaimer. You define the title and text yourself and can include links to the publisher’s website or additional licensing terms.
By using variables, the text can be further personalised—for example: "This book is the property of [First Name] [Surname], email [email@address.com], transaction ID [987654321], and order number [12345]." This text can be configured once as a template or varied per transaction. This page can also feature a QR code linking to a custom URL, such as a webshop or promotional landing page. The information page is automatically included with its chosen title in the Table of Contents of an eBook (ePub 2 or 3).
Mailing
BoMark can also facilitate mailshots. By uploading an Excel spreadsheet with names and email addresses, an eBook can be distributed quickly to a large group. BoMark can email the recipients directly with a download link to the watermarked eBook, or you can download a spreadsheet containing all names and unique links to manage the mailing yourself.
Tracking
If an author or publisher discovers an ePub or PDF file from a potentially illegal source, BoMark includes functionality to trace the file back to the specific transaction. By uploading the file, BoMark immediately identifies the transaction and the details of the original purchaser by scanning dozens of embedded markers within the document.
Embargo
Every file can be assigned an embargo date and time. This allows a publisher to prepare a new eBook in advance—and even sell it or distribute download links—while ensuring the file cannot be downloaded until the embargo has expired.
Support
BoMark has a comprehensive support system. Should you encounter any issues, you can use the support form or send an email to our dedicated support address. We will respond as soon as possible. Every support enquiry is assigned a ticket number so that we can quickly pick up where we left off if you have any further questions.
